Digital Camera - Canon 6D Full Frame DSLR - 20.6 mp
I've had this camera for a few years now and I love it to pieces, it is the pride and joy of my gear, without it I don't know what I would do. I first used a DSLR in 2011 when i decided to buy a Canon 550D, I loved this camera and learnt as much as I could about filmmaking and photography on it. for the first year I will admit I use manual settings, it wasn't until I started shooting some wedding films that I actually learnt about what settings did what and how to change them. after saving up for about 6 months working every Saturday shooting wedding films I decided to buy my Canon 6D, I remember the day it came as it arrived the same day GTA 5 was released. The biggest difference between the 6D and 550D is that the 6D is full frame, at first I didn't think it was that big of a deal, but recently I've started to realise how much full frame can affect your work, lenses you buy will be the right focal length and you can use wide lenses and they'll actually be wide.
Film Camera - Olympus OM-2n - 35mm
The Olumpus OM-2n 35mm film camera is the first proper film camera I own, I do have a Fisheye Lomogrpahy film camera but that's just a point and shoot. Considering I learnt on digital first and then converted over to try some film I found it a very easy adjustment. I first felt it would be quite difficult but after shooting a few rolls of film and learning how the camera works it has been a pleasure to shoot with. I have always loved the effect of film and I feel with certain programs and presets like Vsco you can emulate it, but nothing can beat the real things. Also as probably most people who shoot film will say and know, its so much more fun and existing not knowing what you've got until you finally get it developed. Its great looking through your envelope of images and remembering the times you shot the photos!
Lenses - Canon lenses - 24-105mm, 70-200mm
When I first started out I basically only used the Canon 50mm F1.8 that everyone uses, but after upgrading to full frame I also decided to upgrade my lenses as to be honest, they are going to make more of a difference to videos and photos than the body will. The first Canon lens I decided to get was the Canon 24-105mm F4 L series lens. Now this lenses is one of the best go to lenses, it has a very wide end at 24mm and then a more telephoto at the other with 105. Now with this lens being a L series lens its very sturdy, just by holding this lens you can feel how well its made, the focusing and zoom rings are perfectly smooth and work so much better than other cheaper lenses. The next lens I decided to get was the Canon 70-200mm F4 L series lens. I feel this lens accompanies the 24-105 perfectly with a partial overlapping on the focal distance. similar to the 24-105 its also a L series lens so therefore has great build quality and the glass is perfect quality.
Lenses - Samyang Lenses - 14mm, 35mm, 85mm
The Samyang lenses were a bit of an impulse buy for me, I first started out buying the 14mm F2.8, now this lens is super wide, and I mean super wide. I love to just walk around looking through the view finder with it on, it shows a more first person view of the world but with a slight fisheye effect. After the 14mm I decided a while late to buy the 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens, this was my first cine lens which means it has a de-clicked aperture on the lens and also instead of a rubber focusing ring it has hard plastic teeth which work with follow focuses. This lens was amazing and worked perfectly with what ever I was shooting, the low T stop allowed for low light shooting meaning I could get some great shots at night. The last Samyang I got to complete my set of 3 was the 85mm T1.5 Cine lens, this lens is exactly the same as the 35mm but just with an 85mm focal length. both lenses are made extremely well with crazy good glass.
